Chancellor of Shu

The Prime Minister's Temple — Du Fu

Where shall I seek the Prime Minister's temple?

Beyond Jin City, the cypress trees grow dense.

Green grass against the steps reflects spring's hues,

Behind the leaves, the oriole sings in vain—its song so fine.

Three visits besought his counsel for the realm's design,

Two dynasties he served with a loyal heart's design.

The campaign was not won—he died before the fight,

And heroes ever weep, their robes soaked with tears' tide.
