Going in the Morning to the Master's Monastery to Read Buddhist Sutras

Draw cold water, rinse the teeth, and clear the mind, brushing dust from the robe.

Holding a palm-leaf scripture, I stroll out to the eastern pavilion to read.

The true source—there is nothing to grasp; false traces are what the world pursues.

The words of the ancients—can they be fathomed in silence? How then can the nature be refined to maturity?

The monk's courtyard is still; moss-green connects with deep bamboo.

The sun rises, mist and dew disperse; the green pines gleam as if freshly bathed.

Quietly, words fall away—awakened, the heart is at peace, fully content.
