Seeing Off Wei Wan Heading to the Capital
At dawn I hear the traveler sing the song of parting,
Last night the first frost crossed the river with you.
How can the wild geese be endured when heard through sorrow?
Much less the clouded mountains, traversed in the loneliness of a stranger.
The pass town's trees hasten the cold's approach in the fading light,
In the imperial gardens, the evening sounds of pounding clothes grow many.
Do not think Chang'an a place of idle pleasure,
Lest the years slip by in vain.
