No Title (Phoenix Brocade and Fragrant Silk, So Thin)

Untitled

Li Shangyin

How many layers of phoenix-tail fragrant silk, so thin,

The green-patterned round canopy is sewn deep in the night.

A fan cut from the moon's soul—shame is hard to hide,

A carriage passes with thunderous sound—words never exchanged.

Once there was loneliness, the golden embers growing dim,

Now no news at all, the pomegranate flowers red.

The piebald horse is tied only by the bank of drooping willows,

Where in the southwest shall I wait for a favorable wind?
