Since the Chaos in Henan, Famine Inside the Pass, Brothers Scattered Each in a Different Place. Moved by Gazing at the Moon, I Write My Feelings and Send Them to Elder Brother Fu Liang, Seventh Brother Yu Qian, Fifteenth Brother Wu Jianng, and Also to You

Hard times, years of famine—our family estates lie empty,

Brothers wander as strangers, scattered east and west.

The fields lie desolate after the clash of arms,

Our flesh and blood are driven apart along the roads.

I gaze at my shadow, a lone wild goose a thousand miles from home;

Uprooted, we drift like autumn thistles in the ninth-month wind.

Together we gaze at the bright moon—tears should fall;

In one night, the same longing for home stirs in five places.
