Remembering Xin Da in the Southern Pavilion on a Summer Night

The mountain light suddenly sinks in the west, the pond moon gradually rises in the east. Letting down my hair, I enjoy the evening cool; I open my window and recline in idle ease.

The lotus breeze wafts a fragrant scent; the bamboo dew drips with a clear sound. I long to take up my lute and play, but grieve that no one of understanding can appreciate it.

Moved by this, I think of my old friend; through the long night I weary myself with dreams of him.
