An Old Friend Lost Among the Barbarians

Two years ago, you campaigned to Yuezhi,

The fortress fell, the entire army lost.

Now cut off from all word, Chinese and Tibetan,

The living and the dead are forever parted.

No one gathers the abandoned tents,

Yet a returning horse knows the tattered flags.

I would make offerings, but wonder if you still live—

At the edge of the sky, I weep at this hour.
