Remembering the Past at the Chu River (Ma Dai)
Dew and chill light gather,
the fading sun descends the Chu hills.
Monkeys cry among the trees of Dongting,
a man drifts in a magnolia boat.
Over vast marshes the bright moon rises,
dark mountains hem in the rushing streams.
The Lord of the Clouds I do not see—
all night long, alone, I grieve at autumn.
