Gazing at Mount Tai (How Majestic Is the Great Mountain?)
What is this great peak like, the sacred Dai?
Through Qi and Lu its blue never ends.
Nature gathered here all wondrous grace,
Its southern and northern slopes cleave dusk from dawn.
Layer upon layer, clouds surge in my breast;
Squinting, I watch the homeward-bound birds fly in.
One day I shall ascend the highest crest,
And at a glance all other mountains will seem small.
