📜 About & history

Beiguan Mosque is in Beiguan Village, Baicheng Town, Xiping County, Henan. Its founding date is unknown, but its history goes back to the Qing Daoguang era. After repairs in 1838 it covered 7 mu in front and rear courtyards, and in 1874 it was enlarged to more than 10 mu with a new prayer hall. In 1914 the south lecture hall was rebuilt and a mosque school founded, renamed Beiguan Islamic Primary School in 1939. Occupied by a school from 1958, it resumed religious use in 1979, and between 1985 and 1997 the congregation rebuilt the prayer hall, south rooms, an Arabic-style gatehouse and the north lecture hall. Today it covers 4 mu with 24 rooms in Chinese palace style, built of blue-grey brick and stone with fine carving, and keeps two stelae from 1838 and 1914.
