Beifang Mosque (Urumqi)

Beifang Mosque is on the north main street of Renmin Road, Urumqi, Xinjiang. Founded in 1886 and covering 3.7 mu, it was rebuilt in 1944. During the Cultural Revolution it was occupied by the Urumqi No. 2 Rubber Factory; after 1978 it was returned under the religious policy and restored to its original form. The earth-and-timber prayer hall has a veranda projecting about 3 m, supported by four red wooden columns on a base of grey brick and lime mortar. The current imam is Han Haoxue.
