Zotye 众泰汽车
Yongkang, Zhejiang, China (formerly registered in Anhui)
Wu Jianzhong
Wu Jianzhong founded Zotye in 2005 as a small carmaker that initially exported auto parts before scaling up to complete vehicles; the company became known for cheap designs cloned from global brands, aimed at China's smaller cities and rural areas. Leadership changed hands repeatedly after his 2018 departure amid a worsening financial crisis that led to bankruptcy in 2021 and a subsequent restructuring that never restored meaningful production. Hu Zeyu has led the company since 2023, with the crisis still unresolved through 2025-2026.
📖 About the company
Zotye was a Chinese brand that gained wide popularity in the late 2010s for cheap cars cloned from global designs (most notably the Zotye SR9, styled after the Porsche Macan), but it fell into a severe financial crisis that led to bankruptcy in 2021. Despite announcing a "production resumption" in December 2022 and a 2023 restructuring, the company has effectively produced almost no new vehicles since: it sold just 14 cars in 2024 from old inventory, and in June 2025 it formally stated it could not continue vehicle production due to a liquidity crisis, while its parent company (Tech-New Group) was itself declared bankrupt in December 2025. Plainly: Zotye is effectively a dormant brand in 2025-2026, currently exporting no new vehicles, and car traders should not rely on it as an actual supply source. If the company survives at all, it currently leans on auto-parts and door-manufacturing businesses for cash flow, with unconfirmed announced plans to develop a small A0-class EV and pursue overseas expansion in the future.
