Soueast 东南汽车
Fuzhou, Fujian, China
Yin Tongyue
Yin Tongyue is Chery Group's founding chairman, leading the company since its 1997 establishment. He oversaw Chery's 2024 acquisition of Soueast Motor after Mitsubishi's exit and a sharp production decline, folding it into Chery's wide brand portfolio that also includes Jetour, Exeed, Omoda and Jaecoo.
📖 About the company
Soueast Motor was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Taiwan's China Motor Corporation and Fujian Motor Industry Group, joined by Japan's Mitsubishi Motors in 2006 to build Mitsubishi-badged cars in China. The company peaked at around 150,000 units sold in 2017, before Mitsubishi exited the partnership in 2021 amid a sharp production decline. China's Chery Group fully acquired the company in 2024 and relaunched it with a new model portfolio (S06, S07, S09) that are essentially rebadged versions of Chery's own Jetour models (Dashing, X70 Plus and Shanhai L9 respectively), aimed mainly at export markets in Central Asia and the Middle East. Soueast today should be understood as a Chery-owned export brand riding on its parent's engineering, not an independent manufacturer in the traditional sense.
