Yin Tongyue founded and has chaired Chery Group since 1997. Under his leadership, Chery launched the Karry brand in 2009 as a dedicated light-commercial-vehicle and van arm, separate from its core passenger cars. Following Chery Automobile's 2025 Hong Kong IPO, Karry and Chery Commercial Vehicle were spun off to be run directly by Chery Holding Group, with no capital ties to the listed Chery Automobile entity.
📖 About the company
Karry was established in 2009 as a brand spun off from Chery to cover light commercial vehicles, vans and mini pickups, after starting out in 2007 as a sub-model called "Chery Karry." Honesty note: Karry is NOT affiliated with JAC Motors, as sometimes assumed -- it belongs to Chery Holding Group, and has been financially separate from the Hong Kong-listed Chery Automobile since that company's 2025 IPO. Karry stopped introducing new combustion models domestically in China from 2024 onward, switching exclusively to electric drive, though some older ICE models (like the Q22-class mini trucks) continue to be exported to Africa, Latin America and the Middle East to meet emerging-market demand for affordable commercial vehicles.
