DFSK / Fengon 东风风光(Fengon/DFSK)
Chongqing and Shiyan, Hubei, China
Zhang Xinghai
Zhang Xinghai began in 1986 with a small parts factory in Chongqing, later founding Sokon Group, which partnered with Dongfeng in 2003 to build budget microvans and the Fengon (Fengguang) family cars. He later transformed the company into Seres Group, focused on EVs and its high-profile Huawei partnership on the premium AITO brand, while Fengon/DFSK remains the affordable, largely export-oriented product line.
📖 About the company
DFSK (formerly Dongfeng Sokon) was a joint venture founded in 2003 by Dongfeng and Sokon to build budget microvans, expanding in 2016 into family SUVs under the Fengguang name (known internationally as Fengon or DFSK Glory). It built a wide export network spanning Indonesia, Pakistan (locally assembled in Lahore), Russia, Morocco, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and Brunei, plus right-hand-drive imports into the UK. Sokon bought out Dongfeng's full stake in 2019 and later rebranded as "Seres Group," now globally known for its Huawei partnership on the premium AITO brand, while Fengon/DFSK remains the original budget line, most recently launching an EV version as the Seres 3 in Malaysia in 2025.
