Zhangye Danxia National Geopark, nicknamed the 'Rainbow Mountains', is among China's most visually spectacular geological sites. Its multi-colored layers of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue sedimentary rock were formed over 24 million years of deposition and uplift during the Himalayan orogeny. National Geographic listed it among the world's most beautiful geological wonders. Best visited at sunset for maximum color intensity.
