The Zanda Earth Forest in Zanda County, Ngari, covers about 2,464 square kilometres, with a core of about 888 square kilometres centred on Toling Town at 3,750 to 4,450 metres. It is the world's largest earth-forest landform of Tertiary strata, carved by water and weathering from the old lake-bed deposits of the Sutlej (Langqen Zangbo) basin into shapes like castles and watchtowers. It became a national geopark in 2005.
