ℹ️ About
The Yongtai city site in Yongtai Village, Sitan Town, Jingtai County, also called the Turtle City, is a large rammed-earth garrison town begun in the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty. It measures 520 metres east to west and 500 metres north to south, with walls of rammed loess and sand 8 to 12 metres high, semicircular outer enclosures on the east, west and north, a south gate with a barbican and 12 bastions. It was an important stronghold of the Ming frontier defence system in Gansu. The Yongtai school founded in 1914 has since become a museum. It was listed as a national key cultural relic site in 2006.
