The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in Menglun Town, Mengla County, is an institution directly under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was founded in 1959 under the botanist Cai Xitao. It covers about 1,125 hectares, holds more than 14,000 species of living plants and has 39 themed plant sections. It was rated a national 5A tourist attraction in 2011.
