Xingcheng Ancient City, once called Ningyuan, was founded in 1428 in the centre of old Xingcheng as a Ming garrison town. Its walls are 3,247 metres around, with a gate and barbican on each side and a bell-and-drum tower at the centre. It is one of the four most complete Ming walled towns in China and a national key cultural relic.
