The Xiata Scenic Area, in Kirgiz Ethnic Township of Zhaosu County on the northern slopes of the western Tianshan, covers 65 square kilometres. It centres on the ancient Xiata Trail across the Tianshan and links the Xiata ancient city site, the Xiata River, hot springs and Snow Lotus Peak. The trail was named "China's most beautiful ancient road" in 2010; the area became a national forest park in 2011 and a national 4A attraction in 2014.
