Xiannü Lake, 16 kilometres south-west of Xinyu, is a national scenic area of 298 square kilometres, including 50 square kilometres of water with nearly a hundred islands and 95% forest cover. Originally the Jiangkou Reservoir built in 1958, it is named after a fairy legend recorded in the Eastern Jin "In Search of the Supernatural". Its Qixi cultural tourism resort became a national tourist resort in 2023.
