Wuhai Lake in western Wuhai is a reservoir formed at the end of 2013 after the Haibowan water-control project on the Yellow River was completed. Covering 118 square kilometres, it borders the Ulan Buh Desert to the west and the city's riverside promenade to the east, and is a national water-conservancy scenic area and a regional tourist resort.
