The Wenchuan Special Tourist Area was developed during reconstruction after the 12 May 2008 Wenchuan earthquake as a memorial and cultural area. It covers Sanjiang, Yingxiu and Shuimo in southern Wenchuan County and is made up of the Yingxiu earthquake ruins, Shuimo Ancient Town and the Sanjiang ecological tourist area. It was rated a national 5A tourist attraction in 2013.
