The Wangtian'e Scenic Area, a national 4A attraction, lies in the Shiwudaogou valley of Changbai Korean Autonomous County, in the heart of the Changbai Mountains. It is a gorge known for strange rocks and waterfalls, towering old trees and jagged crags. Mount Wangtian'e, 2,051.4 metres high and 35 kilometres from Heaven Lake, is a huge basaltic volcanic cone and caldera formed by central eruptions and lava outpourings, and the valley has distinctive volcanic features.
