ℹ️ About
The Tengchong Beihai Wetland Provincial Nature Reserve in Shuanghai Community, Beihai Town, Tengchong, Baoshan, lies 12 kilometres northeast of central Tengchong and covers 1,628.94 hectares. Made up of the Beihai marsh and the Qinghai crater lake, it is the only volcanic-dammed lake wetland in southwest China. Beihai has rare floating grass mats up to 2 metres thick, and Qinghai is one of only three acidic lakes in the world. The reserve has recorded 164 protected plant species in 57 families and 189 species of land vertebrates in 26 orders, including national first-class protected animals such as Mrs Hume's pheasant, the black stork and the golden eagle. It became a provincial reserve in 2005 and has wooden boardwalks for eco-tourism.
