Shuangshan Island lies in the north-western outskirts of Zhangjiagang between the main Yangtze channel and the Zhangjiagang shipping channel. It covers about 20 square kilometres with 16.8 kilometres of shoreline and is one of the best-preserved industry-free islands of the middle and lower Yangtze, and the only river island in Suzhou. Formed from Yangtze silt, more than half of it is wetland, with reed beds and the Dabodun Ecological Park, and it is a habitat for rare birds. It has a round-island cycling route and the River-Crossing Victory Park.
