ℹ️ About
The Shimao Site sits on a loess hill north of the Tuwei River at Shimao Village, Gaojiabu Town, Shenmu, on the northern edge of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi. Covering about 4.25 million square metres and some 4,000 years old, it is the largest walled city yet found from the late Longshan to early Xia period and is seen as a window on the origins of Chinese civilisation. Radiocarbon dating places its core, the Huangchengtai platform, at about 2200-1900 BCE. It became a national key cultural relic in 2006.
