ℹ️ About
The Shenhai Well at 289 Da'an Street, Da'an District, Zigong, occupies 3 mu and is a national key cultural relic site. Begun in the Daoguang reign of the Qing and completed in 1835 at a depth of 1,001.42 metres, it was the world's first hand-drilled well deeper than 1,000 metres, and it is the only surviving handmade salt workshop in China. Drilled with the traditional Chinese percussion method, it marks the maturity of ancient Chinese drilling technology. It yields both natural gas and brine, and its works include a pounding house, a derrick-winch house, brine-lifting tubes and an evaporation house.
