The Shengtang Mountain Scenic Area in south-western Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, Laibin, is a national 4A attraction of about 120 square kilometres, 38 kilometres from the county town. Seven peaks rise above 1,600 metres; the highest, Ma'anding at 1,979 metres, is the tallest in central Guangxi. Long erosion of purple-red conglomerate has carved Danxia-style rock pillars, forest covers 95.6% of the area, and it shelters rare species such as the Cathaya tree and the Chinese crocodile lizard. It is known for its sea of azaleas.
