A historic site southwest of Shaoxing considered the mecca of Chinese calligraphy. In 353 CE the famous calligrapher Wang Xizhi invited 41 friends for a gathering here where they composed poems, and he wrote his celebrated 'Preface to the Orchid Pavilion', regarded as the greatest masterpiece of Chinese calligraphy.
