The Nalati Scenic Area in Xinyuan County lies in the heart of the Tianshan at the eastern end of the Ili valley. It was established in 1999 and has a planned area of 1,848 square kilometres. From south to north it is made up of an alpine grassland area, a Kazakh folk-culture area and a visitor services area. It was rated a national 5A tourist attraction in 2011.
