Maijishan Grottoes (Haystack Mountain) is one of China's Four Great Buddhist Grottoes, alongside Dunhuang, Longmen, and Yungang. Carved into a 142-meter-tall sheer cliff, the site contains 7,800 clay and stone Buddhist sculptures and over 1,300 m² of murals spanning from the 4th to 19th centuries. The dramatic cliff-face galleries are connected by narrow plank walkways, making it one of China's most architecturally daring religious sites.
