Jiuli Lake in Zhongshan Town, Xianyou County, Putian, has a planned area of 50 square kilometres with a 15-square-kilometre core, and is counted with Wuyi Mountain and Yuhua Cave among the "Three Wonders of Fujian". It is famous for four marvels: the Jiuli waterfalls, glacial gorges, a thousand-year dream-seeking tradition and cliff inscriptions. Its nine-tier waterfalls drop 432 metres in total, the highest single fall 108 metres, and some 40 cliff inscriptions survive, including the Song "Tianzi Wannian" and the Ming "Diyi Penglai". With an average yearly temperature of 17°C, it is a national water-conservancy scenic area, a national 4A attraction and a provincial scenic area.
