ℹ️ About

Hutou Fortress is an underground stronghold built by Japan's Kwantung Army between 1934 and 1939 at Hutou Town, Hulin. Covering 360 square kilometres, it has five positions including Menghu Hill, Hubei Hill and Hudong Hill, with underground command posts, a power plant and ammunition stores; the Japanese called it the "Maginot Line of the East". More than 100,000 Chinese labourers were forced to build it. Soviet forces attacked in August 1945 and the garrison held out until 26 August. The Hutou Fortress Site Museum displays labourers' belongings and evidence of Japanese crimes.
