ℹ️ About
Huatang Village in Jinting Town, Shengzhou, lies southeast of the Siming Mountains in the east of the city, 23 kilometres from the town centre. It has nearly 6,000 registered residents, more than 4,000 of them descendants of the calligrapher Wang Xizhi. It was founded in the Southern Song by Wang Hongji, a 26th-generation descendant, and was first called "Huatang" (Painting Hall) because the Wang family excelled in calligraphy and painting. The village keeps 55 Ming and Qing buildings, 3,200 metres of pebbled lanes and a 357-metre zigzag water channel, as well as the Wang ancestral hall, a national key cultural relic site. The Ming-dynasty channel is still shared in time slots under a village water covenant.
