ℹ️ About
Heiyou Mountain is a natural asphalt mound in north-eastern Karamay, about 2 kilometres from the city centre, where the Karamay oilfield reaches the surface. It formed from crude oil seeping out over long periods; the largest mound is 13 metres high and covers 0.2 square kilometres. In 1955 oil gushed from Well No. 1 nearby, marking the discovery of the Karamay oilfield. A monument and statues of oil workers were set up in 1982, and it is a national science education base. It became a national 4A attraction in 2021, with oil-spring displays and a study base showcasing Karamay's oil culture.
