ℹ️ About
The Haifeng Red Palace and Red Square Memorial at 13 Renmin South Road, Haicheng Town, Haifeng County, Shanwei, marks the birthplace of China's first Soviet government, where Communists led by Peng Pai organised the people of Haifeng and Lufeng during the Great Revolution; it is now a revolutionary history museum. The site covers about 24,000 square metres, including the 1,850-square-metre Red Palace and the 2,212-square-metre Red Square. The Red Palace was built in 1379 as the Ming-dynasty Confucian school-temple of Haifeng. In 1927 the Hailufeng congress of workers, peasants and soldiers met here and founded the Haifeng Soviet government, celebrated by a rally of 50,000 people in the Red Square. The site has a stele corridor, an exhibition on the Haifeng peasant movement and a bronze statue of Peng Pai.
