ℹ️ About
The Guge Kingdom ruins stand on an earthen hill by the Xiangquan (Sutlej) River near Zhabrang Village, Zanda County, Ngari, and were among the first national key cultural relic sites. The site has more than 300 buildings and caves and two underground passages on three levels, from top to bottom the palace, temples and dwellings, enclosed by a wall with corner watchtowers; its murals have a distinctive style. The kingdom was founded around the 10th century by Kyide Nyimagon, a great-grandson of Langdarma, the last ruler of the Tibetan Empire, and dominated western Tibet from the mid-10th to the early 17th century; it is said to have fallen after a Ladakhi invasion in 1630.
