Changting Ancient City, also called Tingzhou, lies at the southern foot of the Wuyi Mountains at the old crossroads of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi; Tingzhou prefecture was set up in 736. Its 2.48-square-kilometre core keeps four historic streets, including Diantou Street, as well as Wolong Academy, the old city wall and an ancient stage. A national 4A attraction, it was called "China's most beautiful mountain town" by Rewi Alley.
