ℹ️ About
The Bajiao ("Eight-Cornered") city site, also called Yungdrung Khar, stands on a river terrace of the Ganjia grassland in Ganjia Town, Xiahe County, Gannan. First built in the Han dynasty and covering about 200,000 square metres, it is largely intact, with walls about 2.2 kilometres long and 10 metres high. It was a contested fortress and an important post station on the Henan route of the Silk Road. Its plan is a hollow cross with eight corners, each with a bastion, surrounded by a moat, ditch and outer wall, and every corner lies within crossbow range of the next, making it unusually defensible and rare among China's surviving ancient cities. It is listed in the sixth batch of national key cultural relic sites.
