Nowhere Boys

简介

Nowhere Boys is a Hong Kong band formed in 2015, currently signed to Media Asia Music. The band consists of five members: lead vocalist Van Chan, drummer Nate Wong, guitarist Kenneth Angus, keyboardist/violinist Fisher Kan, and bassist Hansun Chan. The band describes its music as "Cinematic Rock" and draws most of its inspiration from films. The band's name comes from a film about John Lennon's childhood titled "Nowhere Boy." Before forming the band, each member had a different professional background: Van was an architect, Nate graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Kenneth repaired guitars, and Fisher and Hansun taught music. Van met Nate in 2014 at a film music event at Backstage Live Restaurant, and after jamming together they decided to form a band. In July 2015, the band self-released its debut EP "Nowhere Boys," recorded entirely at members' homes due to limited budget, and sold all 1,000 copies within three months. The band then signed with the music company founded by Vicky Fung and Tse Kwok Wai. In 2016, the band successfully raised HK$100,000 through the crowdfunding platform "Music Bee" to release the album "Welcome To Our Hyperreality." The band also collaborated with actor Neo Yau on the single "普通華," which received endorsement from renowned lyricist Wyman Wong. In 2019, the band achieved major success with "致旅途中的我," winning Best Lyrics at the Metro Radio Music Awards and placing third at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards, while also winning Best Collaboration for the duet "時光歲月" with Ekin Cheng. In 2020, the band performed the theme song for the ViuTV drama "地產仔" and held their concert "The Final Movement Live 2020." In 2021, the band briefly became independent, founding their own label before re-signing with Media Asia Music within a year.
