Raidas
简介
Raidas is a Hong Kong pop duo formed in 1986, consisting of members Wong Yiu-Kwong and Chan Tak-Cheung. The group rose to fame after participating in the "Asia-Pacific Songwriting Competition Hong Kong Finals" in June 1986 with their original song "Woman Who Smokes," winning second place. Wong Yiu-Kwong was responsible for composition and arrangement, while Chan Tak-Cheung handled lead vocals, with most lyrics written by lyricist Lin Xi, who was regarded by many as the group's third member. Raidas' works were heavily influenced by 1980s British electronic music, emphasizing melodic rhythm. Among their most popular songs were "Legend," "Devoted Heart," "Someone Else's Song," "Dangerous Game," and "A City Without Passersby." "Devoted Heart" was selected as one of the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs at the 10th annual awards in 1987. After releasing one EP and two full albums, disagreements between Wong Yiu-Kwong and the record label over musical direction led to Wong's departure and the group's disbandment. In the early 1990s, the band trend began to decline. Chan Tak-Cheung attempted a solo career but failed to match Raidas' success, later leaving the entertainment industry for voice dubbing work. Wong Yiu-Kwong joined ATV as music director, then gradually withdrew from entertainment to focus on promoting Buddhism, producing Buddhist music, and teaching yoga, eventually qualifying as a music therapist. In 1996, Raidas reunited for a performance at ATV's 10th anniversary celebration. In 2017, director Pang Ho-Chung's film "Love Off the Cuff" featured a karaoke cover of "Legend," and director Cheng Tan-Rui's film "The Yuppie Fantasia 3" used Raidas' 1987 song "Devoted Heart" as its soundtrack.
