简介

Zhang Ziyi is a prominent Chinese actress born on February 9, 1979 in Beijing. She began her artistic journey as a dancer, entering the Beijing Dance Academy at age eleven and studying folk dance for six years, winning an award at the Taoli Dance Competition in 1994. After graduating, she realized she was not suited for a dance career and decided to study acting, enrolling at the Central Academy of Drama in 1996. She rose to fame with her first leading role in Zhang Yimou's film "The Road Home" in 1999, which earned her the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress. She then achieved international recognition through Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000. She continued her career with notable films including "Hero," "House of Flying Daggers," "2046," and "Memoirs of a Geisha," receiving a Golden Globe nomination for the latter. In 2013, she starred in Wong Kar-wai's "The Grandmaster," achieving a historic sweep of all major Chinese film awards including the Golden Horse Award and Hong Kong Film Award. She was also awarded the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013 and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2005.
