简介

Derek Alan James Mackesy is a Hong Kong actor and television host, born on 8 April 1986 to a Eurasian family—his father is half-British Irish and his mother is from Hong Kong. He received British education from a young age and won a writing competition in his childhood, earning a flight over Hong Kong as a prize, which sparked his interest in becoming a pilot. He studied in Shatin schools, then moved to Cambridge and attended Durham University for a Bachelor of Science in Medicine, graduating with honours in 2007. After graduation, he did not continue medical studies as his mother wished, but secretly returned to Hong Kong to obtain a private transport pilot license and also worked as an advertising model for three years. In May 2010, he joined Cathay Dragon as a senior first officer on A320, A321, and A330 aircraft, and was promoted to captain in September 2018. In October 2020, he was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but received an offer to shoot an advertisement for AXA, then participated in TVB's 《衝上雲霄大選》 competition and won the championship, officially entering the entertainment industry. In January 2021, he joined TVB as a management contract artist and began hosting 《港生活·港享受》. In March 2023, he announced on social media that he had returned to flying.
