Billy Cheung Poon Lap is a Hong Kong catering industry professional who works part-time as an actor and food programme host, currently under a basic artiste contract with TVB. He is the youngest son of Cheung Shek Pang, founder of the Hong Kong Hon Po Group. His father originally operated a century-old restaurant at the junction of Prince Edward Road and Tong Mei Road before partnering to run the Hon Po Restaurant Group. Cheung attended Pui Ching Primary School and ELCHK Lutheran Secondary School in Hong Kong, then went to a boarding school in the UK after completing Form 2, later studying fashion design at university. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he worked as a designer for San Sang Hang under the fashion brand Theme, the Lai Sun Group, and G2000. In 1996, when his father intended to immigrate to Canada, he took over the family business and became the owner of Ding Ho Seafood Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. In 2010, he took over the 50-year-old Ying Do Roast Kitchen in Wong Tai Sin (now closed) and also engaged in food raw materials supply and distribution. In 2009, a friend recommended him to host a cooking segment for TVB's food programme 新派煮意, marking his on-screen debut. In 2012, producer Lam Chi Wah recognised his talent and cast him in the drama 飛虎. Since then, he has balanced running his business with filming TV dramas. He is married to a woman in the fashion industry and they have two sons.
