BEO_EN: Jian Ouyang was born in 1914 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, to a family from Yanbu Town in Nanhai County. He moved to Hong Kong in his childhood and was educated at an English school. His father, Ouyang Ruohu, was also an opera actor. At age 17, Jian Ouyang studied opera under Xixin Lun, and after completing his training, he first worked in rural opera troupes before quickly rising to become a leading male performer in martial and singing roles. Later in his career he switched to comic roles and became one of the Four Great Comic Actors of Cantonese opera. He was also a Hong Kong film actor during the 1950s and 1960s, appearing in nearly 180 films over a span of ten years. He enjoyed buying new products and collecting fine items, with shopping expenses accounting for 75% of his income. He died on 9 October 1961 at St. Teresa's Hospital in Kowloon at the age of 47 from stomach cancer, leaving behind his wife Liang Baolian and two children. A memorial film, "Chun Man Di Jia" (1962), was made in his honour, with Cantonese opera stars and film actors volunteering their performances, and the proceeds were given to support his orphaned children's living and education expenses.
