简介
Johnny Yip, known by his pen name Yida, was born in 1943 in Shanghai and grew up in Hong Kong after his family moved there in 1953. He is considered one of Hong Kong's most prominent romance novelists during the 1960s and 1970s, taking his pen name from Verdi's opera Aida. He published his first novel "The Little Sweetheart" at age sixteen, which achieved great success and was adapted into the film "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing." Yida was known for his ability to express feminine emotions despite being a male writer, and many of his works were adapted into films, TV series, and radio dramas. Besides writing, he also acted in films and television, worked as assistant director and screenwriter, hosted fashion shows, and served as a program presenter. In the 1980s, he shifted to writing essays, food criticism, travel writing, and film reviews. He retired from public life in 2002 and moved to Zhuhai to live in seclusion, devoting himself to writing.
