简介
Ben Ng Ngai Cheung, originally named Ng Choi Nam, is a Hong Kong actor, host, and businessman. He grew up in the Tai Wo Hau resettlement area in Hong Kong and graduated from Asbury Wesley Primary School in 1974, later attending Chu Hai Secondary School in Mong Kok. He was a member of the school basketball team and often represented the school in competitions. Due to financial difficulties, he dropped out of secondary school and played professional football with "Bulova" in the First Division in 1979, but left due to limited prospects and a broken left leg bone. He then worked as a firefighter and later as a customs officer for two years. In 1982, he graduated from the 8th ATV Artist Training Course alongside classmates such as Anthony Wong, Kingdom Yuen, and Mak Choi Han. He debuted as the lead in the drama "Salted Fish, Tofu, and Little Cabbage" in 1983. In 1989, he changed his stage name to Ben Ng on the advice of ATV image consultant Tina Liu, who felt his original name sounded too soft. He moved to the film industry in the 1990s with the support of the late actor Kao Fei and appeared in adult films due to his muscular physique. He joined TVB in 1994 after several leading actors departed, and left in 2005. He is now active in Mainland China. In 2016, he suffered a torn aorta from his heart to his kidney and was hospitalized in intensive care, but recovered. He received the "Classic Screen Character" award at the Shaoxing Keqiao New Wave Film Festival in 2018. He has been married twice—first to a Malaysian hotel executive with whom he had a daughter in 1991 and divorced in 1996, and second to 1984 Miss Hong Kong third runner-up Tong Lai Kau.
