At age 12, he moved to England with his elder brother Lawrence Ng Kai Ming to attend Truro School, where he began working in theatre and served as a stage director, laying the foundation for his acting career. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he joined the TVB training course with support from his aunt. He first gained recognition playing a villain in the 1983 drama "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" (魔域桃源), and went on to establish himself as a villain in major dramas such as "The Grand Canal" (大運河) and "The Greed of Man" (流氓大亨). His most iconic role was as the villainous lawyer Fong Tong-ging in the film "Hail the Judge" (九品芝麻官) alongside Stephen Chow, with his lines such as "彈出彈入" becoming widely known. He returned to TVB in 1996 and starred in "File of Justice V" (壹號皇庭V). He reached the peak of his career playing neurosurgeon Dr. Ching Chi-mei in the "Healing Hands" (妙手仁心) series. He faced racial discrimination during his youth in England, where he was called "Chink" and physically attacked in the streets. He married twice, with his second marriage to Chinese actress Shi Yangzi being the most well-known; they had one daughter before divorcing in 2014. In recent years, he has been primarily active in mainland China.
